„The expansion“ (The Expanse) is an American science fiction television series created by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, based on the series of novels by Daniel Abraham and Ty Frank, published under the pseudonym James S. A. Corey. The first season debuted in December 2015., and the series ends with the sixth season in 2022. The series originally aired on Syfy before being picked up by Amazon Prime Video in its fourth season. The series is produced by Alcon Television Group, and all six seasons are available on Amazon Prime Video.
The story takes place several hundred years in the future, when humanity has already colonized the solar system. Earth, Mars and the inhabited asteroids have become separate political and social forces, between which there has been tension for years. The disappearance of young Julie Mao connects the fates of detective Joe Miller, Captain James Holden and high-ranking politician Chrisjen Avasarala. What initially seems like separate cases gradually turns out to be part of a vast conspiracy capable of changing the future of humanity.
At the center of the series is Stephen Strait as James Holden – an officer who turns out to be the captain of the ship "Rocinante" and gradually becomes one of the key figures in the conflict between Earth, Mars and the Belt. Dominic Tipper plays Naomi Nagata – an extremely talented engineer and an important part of the crew. Wes Chatham is Amos Burton – a physically strong and psychologically complex character whose loyalty to the crew often outweighs the moral rules of society. The three are among the series' regulars, appearing in all 62 episodes.
Among the most memorable characters is Krisjen Avasarala, played by Shohreh Aghdashloo. She is a high-ranking politician on Earth who gradually becomes one of the most important players in the complex political situation. The cast also includes Kas Anwar, Frankie Adams, Kara G, Florence Favor, Thomas Jane, Sean Doyle, Jared Harris, David Strathairn, Kiun Alexander, Nadine Nicole and others.
