Blood Sacrifice (2026 – )

Rights holder / Distributor: Netflix

„Blood Sacrifice“", with original title "„Blood Sacrifice“", is a Swedish crime thriller film series created by George Kay, known as the author of "Lupin" and "Hijack". The series is directed by Christopher Newholm, and the screenplay was written by George Kay, Aaron Levander and Emily Robson. Premieres on Netflix on August 20, 2026. The first season consists of five episodes, filmed in Stockholm and its surroundings.

The story begins with the brutal murder of two police officers, who are found dead after a report of an attack. The case turns out to be just the beginning of a series of crimes in which law enforcement officers are the target. The investigation is entrusted to detective Thomas Berg, who realizes that in order to have a chance of solving the murder, he must seek help from a man he has long wanted nothing to do with – his father Alfred, a former police detective.

At the center of the story is Jacob Oftebro as Thomas Berg, an ambitious and respected investigator who is forced to reconcile his professional duty with a deep personal conflict. Against him stands Peter Anderson as Alfred Berg, a former detective who has long been out of the police system and has his own troubled past. The two men's reunion turns the investigation not only into a hunt for a serial killer, but also into an attempt by father and son to overcome the estrangement that has built up over the years.

Other important roles include: Electra Hallman like Natalie Eklund, Alexander Abdalla like Jon-Joe Persson, Henrik Norlen like Max Abrahamson, Irina Bjorklund as Rebecca Bjorklund, Anders Mosling like Lucas Lind, Alva Peedu Jarmen like Bonnie Berg and Jacob Falstedt as Viktor Falk. The cast is mainly Swedish, which adds to the authentic atmosphere of the story.

The direction of Christopher Newholm places a heavy emphasis on atmosphere and psychological tension. Rather than turning the story into a constant chase, the series uses the dark side of Stockholm and the peculiar light of the Scandinavian summer to build a sense of constant anxiety. Creator George Kay describes this unusual summer light as an important part of the production's visual look.

One of the strongest sides of "„Blood Sacrifice“" is the connection between criminal intrigue and family drama. The murders are the engine of the plot, but the relationship between Thomas and Alfred is the emotional core of the series. The two have different ideas about police work, different personalities and accumulated distrust, but circumstances force them to work together. Thus, the investigation gradually becomes a story about a father and son who are trying to restore their relationship.

The criminal line is built around a killer who systematically chooses police officers as his victims. This puts additional pressure on the investigative team, because the threat is no longer abstract - each subsequent signal could mean a new attack on someone from the police themselves. Gradually, Thomas and Alfred begin to discover connections between the individual crimes, but the case also leads them to events from the past.

Visually, the serial film follows the tradition of Scandinavian crime stories, but does not rely solely on cold and gloomy images. The cinematographer is Jorgen Johansson, the music was composed by Johan Söderqvist, and the installation is done by Pablo Labañino, Sverir Christianson and Eric Backstrom. Stockholm and its surroundings are used not just as a backdrop, but as an essential part of the atmosphere of the story.

„Blood Sacrifice“" is a relatively short series – the five episodes are approximately 44 to 58 minutes long. This structure allows the story to develop tightly without stretching it out unnecessarily. Each episode adds a new element to the investigation, while simultaneously deepening the conflict between Thomas and his father.

The first season received relatively good reception. Rotten Tomatoes reports 86% positive reviews from critics, while IMDb shows a rating of around 6,5/10 This suggests that the series has been received rather positively, although viewer reactions have been more moderate.

„Blood Sacrifice“" is a dark and tense Scandinavian crime drama that combines a serial murder investigation with a story about the complex relationship between a father and son. Jacob Oftebro and Peter Anderson are at the heart of the production, and it is their interaction that adds additional depth to the otherwise familiar crime formula.

For fans of Scandinavian crime thrillers "„Blood Sacrifice“" offers a tight story, a dark atmosphere and enough psychological tension. With five episodes and a clearly outlined central conflict, the series is a suitable choice for viewers who prefer crime stories in which personal relationships are almost as important as the investigation itself.
