The Altruists (2026 – )

The Altruists is a 2026 American drama miniseries created by Graham Moore based on journalistic materials by New York Magazine, co-written and co-produced by Jacqueline Hoyt. The eight-episode series is set to premiere on Netflix on November 19, 2026. The story is inspired by the real-life events surrounding the crypto exchange FTX and the people involved in its rise and subsequent collapse.
The story centers on Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison, two ambitious young financiers who want to change the global financial system through cryptocurrencies. Their professional ambitions become intertwined with their personal relationship, as their decisions lead to increasingly serious consequences for the company and its customers. The collapse of FTX turns their story into an investigation into trust, financial risk, and the line between idealism and self-interest.
Graham Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt build the dramatic narrative around real events, focusing on both the financial scheme and the personal relationships between the main figures. Rather than viewing the case solely as a corporate scandal, the series explores the ambitions and decisions behind it. The first episode was directed by James Ponsold, and the remaining episodes were the work of several directors.
Julia Garner plays the role of Caroline Ellison, and Anthony Boyle played by Sam Bankman-Freed. The main cast also includes Alex Lowther, Karan Soni, Naomi Okada, Madison Hu, Matt Rife and Eugene Young. Among the participants in supporting roles are: Paul Reiser, Robin Weigert, Jennifer Gray, Terry Chen and Hudson Williams.
The Altruists examines one of the most talked-about financial scandals in the crypto industry through the lens of ambition, personal relationships and responsibility. The combination of real events and dramatization sets it apart from the usual corporate stories and raises the question of how big promises can hide serious risks. For viewers looking for series and films based on true stories, this is a story of rise, trust and the consequences of the decisions of the people behind a financial empire.
