Crystal Lake (2026 – )

Rights holder / Distributor: A24 / Peacock

Crystal Lake is a 2026 American horror television series created, written, and produced by Brad Caleb Kane. It is scheduled to premiere in the United States on October 15, 2026. The series is a prequel to Friday the 13th and returns to the events surrounding the Voorhees family and the lake that gave the famous series its name.

The story revolves around Pamela Voorhees, who is still grieving the death of her young son Jason, who drowned almost a year earlier. The arrival of two strangers who begin to delve into her past sets off a series of disturbing events in the otherwise peaceful town of Crystal Lake. Thus, the familiar story gradually takes on a new perspective, this time with Pamela at the center of the narrative.

Brad Caleb Kane approaches Crystal Lake not just another slasher film, but a psychological thriller with the atmosphere of paranoid films from the 70s. In addition to the familiar tension and bloody murders, the series places a greater emphasis on the characters, the place and the time in which the story takes place. The eight episodes were directed by Michael Lennox, Celine Held, Logan George and Quen Tran.

At the center of the cast is Linda Cardellini, who takes on the role of Pamela Voorhees and carries the brunt of the story. William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom complement the main composition, and Callum Vinson plays the young Jason. It is particularly curious that the series allows the character of Pamela to be examined in much more detail than the original 1980 film.

Crystal Lake has the potential to be one of the more interesting expansions of a classic horror franchise in recent years. Its strongest point even before the premiere is the idea of telling a familiar story from a different perspective, instead of simply repeating the formula with the killer and the camp. For fans of Friday the 13th it's a particularly curious return to the beginning, and the involvement of A24 and Linda Cardellini suggests a more serious approach to the material.
