After five years away from England, Robin becomes disillusioned with the Crusaders when he fails to stop his commander, Sir Guy of Gisborne (Paul Anderson), to execute a boy despite his father's pleas, which causes the commander to send Robin back to England.

When he returns, Robin learns that he has been declared dead by the Sheriff of Nottingham in order to seize his lands to continue supporting the war effort, on the orders of the corrupt cardinal.
