Almost a real family (Instant Family) is a 2018 American comedy film directed by Sean Anders from a screenplay by Sean Anders and John Morris. The film premiered in Bulgaria on March 1, 2019.
The married couple Pitt (Mark Wahlberg) and Eli (Rose Byrne) Wagner, feeling a lack in their marriage, visit a foster care center. Social workers Karen (Octavia Spencer) and Sharon (Tig Notaro) introduce hopeful future parents to the things foster parents need to know. Couples are taken on a show where they have the chance to touch the children they would like to adopt. Pete and Ellie pass by teenagers, with Ellie showing hesitation about raising youngsters, but one teenager, Lizzie (Isabella Mowner), shares with Eli that everyone knows about people's reluctance to adopt older children.
Pete and Ellie talk to Karen and Sharon about the possibility of taking Lizzie in and learn that her mother is a drug addict who is in prison and set her house on fire because she left her crack pipe lit. It is also revealed that Lizzie has younger siblings named Juan and Lita. Despite their hesitation, Pete and Ellie agree to meet the other children.
At Thanksgiving dinner with Ellie's family, she decides they'll take on foster care to prove that she and Pete can be good parents...
