Horia is a 2023 Romanian-Serbian-Bulgarian adventure film directed by Ana Maria Comanescu from a screenplay by Ana Maria Comanescu. The film will premiere in Romania in 2023.
17-year-old Horia leaves home on his father's old moped "Mobra" to follow his first love - to Cluj. Along the way, 13-year-old Stella joins him. Overcoming various obstacles - including encounters with unusual personalities such as nudists and circus performers - becomes a path to his more mature self.
The dramatic journey ends with the moped confiscated by the police and a meeting with his father - a moment of farewell and understanding.
Shot on the roads of Dobrudja, Transalpina and Cluj, Horia is full of picturesque landscapes. Tudor Mircea's camera follows the symbolic growth of the hero - from wide fields to the "flags" of the true territory of youth.
The choice of music – a nostalgic mix of academic themes and old Bulgarian popular songs – reinforces the sense of movement and freedom.
Horia establishes itself as a bold and modern travel drama in a Slovak-Romanian context. Its strength lies in human relationships, nature and the attitude towards entering adulthood. I recommend it to anyone looking for real, tender and strongly personal cinema.
