Abraham's Boys (2025)

Abraham's Boys is a 2025 American horror film directed by Natasha Kermani from a screenplay by Natasha Kermani and Joe Hill. The film is set to be released in the United States on July 11, 2025.

The film is adapted from a story by Joe Hill (son of Stephen King) and is an informal continuation of the classic Dracula plot, focusing on the legacy of the Van Helsing family - after the Count's defeat, following their lives in the United States in 1915.

The Van Helsing family – Abraham, his wife Mina and their two sons – start a new life on a secluded farm in California, far from the horrors of the past. But despite the distance, strange events and suspicions that the past will soon catch up with them again occur. Abraham develops a paranoid readiness to protect his home from a perceived threat and keeps his sons under strict supervision. On the other hand, Mina gradually loses her mental balance, and the sons – Max and Rudy – begin to doubt whether their father truly trusts them or has an ulterior motive.

The film is shot in a style reminiscent of a Western landscape with a dark Gothic touch—the California landscapes contrast with a sense of isolation and oppressive present. Cinematographer Julia Swain uses natural light and 4:3 frames to convey a claustrophobic effect, although this combination is a controversial visual choice.

This approach has been described as "sunny, slow-burning" - the tension is not in the dripping blood, but in the quiet growth of family drama and fears that remain invisible but tangible.

„Abraham's Boys: A Dracula Story“" is a visually exquisite and thematically provocative interpretation of the vampire legend, emphasizing family loyalty and emotional instability. The film does not offer classic thrills, but instead asks the question: where does protection end and tyranny begin? A subdued but affecting drama that leaves the viewer with feelings of turmoil and reflection.
