The Outer Worlds 2 (2025)
The Outer Worlds 2 is an upcoming action role-playing game set for release in 2025 and developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game is a standalone sequel to The Outer Worlds from 2019 and takes place in the new star system of Arcadia, fully colonized by megacorporations. Players take on the role of an agent of the Earth Directorate, sent to investigate the appearance of mysterious rifts in space that threaten the future of the colony, which is mired in factional conflict.
Like the first part, The Outer Worlds 2 is played from a first-person perspective and combines dynamic combat scenes, stealth mechanics, and rich dialogues when interacting with hostile or neutral characters in the open world. The characteristic branching dialogue system is also preserved, in which the player's choices have a direct impact on the course of the story and the development of relationships with other characters in the team and side characters.
The development of The Outer Worlds 2 began shortly after the original's release in 2019, with full production beginning two years later. Although Tim Kane – co-director of the first game – left Obsidian in 2020, he remained on the team as a creative consultant during the development of the sequel.
The official premiere of The Outer Worlds 2 is scheduled for October 29, 2025, and the game will be available for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
