Plot and themes
Picking up after the events of the first game, Death Stranding 2 takes players to new territories, including Australia and Mexico. While the first installment focused on rebuilding connections in a fractured world, the sequel explores the consequences of over-connectivity and increasing militarization. Kojima compares this evolution to the transition from the Silk Road to the East India Company era, highlighting how trade and connectivity can lead to exploitation and violence.

Gameplay and mechanics
„Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, like its predecessor, is a third-person action-adventure game. The main part of the action takes place in Mexico and Australia, two large-scale open environments that players can freely explore. The main gameplay loop once again revolves around delivering shipments to isolated survivors scattered throughout the post-apocalyptic world.
Players must traverse difficult terrain, carefully balancing the weight of the load on Sam's backpack. A vehicle is unlocked early in the game, which greatly facilitates movement. The customization options are impressive - additional batteries can be added for longer use, as well as weapon mounts for self-defense.
The game world is dynamic and subject to a number of natural disasters such as earthquakes and sandstorms, which change the terrain and force the player to rethink and change their routes. In addition to deliveries, players also actively participate in the construction of destroyed infrastructure - from roads and bridges to a monorail system, which later connects the different colonies and allows for the rapid transportation of large volumes of cargo.
Unlike the first game, On the Beach places a much stronger emphasis on combat. The player can choose between direct combat, a stealth approach, or avoid confrontation altogether by taking difficult but safer routes. There is a large selection of tools and gadgets available for Sam to use to distract enemies or tempt them into a trap.
The game also introduces a dynamic day and night cycle that affects enemy behavior. As you progress, you unlock access to the so-called "Automated Carrier Support System," which serves as a skill tree. It is divided into three main areas: combat, stealth, and logistics - the latter improving Sam's abilities as a courier.
The character's skills are developed and accumulated gradually through the performance of standard actions - the more deliveries Sam makes, the more skillful and efficient his logistical abilities become. This mechanic adds depth and satisfaction to the journey itself, turning each delivery not just a task, but part of the character's growth.

The world and the visual environment
The game world is even more expansive and diverse, with new terrain and weather conditions. The BTs, which were invisible and caused tension in the first game, are now visible, which changes the dynamics of encounters with them. The graphics are impressive, with attention to detail and the atmosphere of each location.

Thematic depth
Kojima drew inspiration from James Cameron's Aliens, transforming the game's original concept into a more dynamic and combat-oriented sequel. This change reflects the natural progression of the story and the desire to offer a new experience for players.
