DOOM is an FPS (first-person shooter) video game developed by Bethesda Software. The new 2016 game is the fourth in a row, following 2004's Doom 3. The game was released on May 13, 2016 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox One. The game is played entirely from a first-person perspective, where the player takes on the role of a marine, engaging in battles with demonic forces from Hell, which take place in the future of the colonized planet Mars. The protagonist's character has a variety of destructive weapons, additional upgrade options, and opportunities to execute enemies (glory kills). The game also has multiplayer (online multiplayer).
The game was originally released as Doom 4 in 2008, but has since undergone intensive development and upgrades, adding new designs and a relaunch in 2011, before being re-released as Doom in 2014. The new version of the game is inspired by rock 'n' roll music, and its soundtrack was composed by Mick Gordon.
Despite negative reviews during the testing period, Doom was well received by players, who were satisfied with the graphics and single-player campaign, but the multiplayer had some shortcomings. The game ranked second in sales in the UK and US upon release, with over 500,000 copies sold by the end of May 2016.
