Cyberpunk 2077 (2020)

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on the game series by video game designer Mike Pondsmith. After years of anticipation, CD Projekt has released Cyberpunk 2077 for PlayStation 4, Stadia, Microsoft Windows and Xbox One on December 10, 2020, followed by the versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on February 15, 2022.

Gameplay

Cyberpunk 2077 is an action role-playing game played from a first-person perspective as V, a mercenary whose voice, face, hairstyle, body type and modifications, background, and clothing can be customized. Statistical categories – body, intelligence, reflexes, technical, and cool – affect the player's playstyle. The three main playstyles are Netrunner (hacking), Techie (machines) and Solo (combat). V must consult a "ripperdoc" to upgrade and purchase cybersweep implants. The rarity of a given piece of equipment is indicated by a color-coded level system. V can take cover, aim, run, jump, double jump, and glide. Melee attacks can be delivered with melee weapons. There are three types of ranged weapons, all of which can be customized and modified – Power (standard), Tech (which penetrates walls and enemies) and Smart (with homing bullets). Ranged weapons are equipped to ricochet bullets in the direction of the target and slow them down in bullet time. Four types of damage can be inflicted and resisted - physical, thermal, electrical and chemical. Using a weapon increases accuracy and reload speed, which manifests itself in character animations. The game can be completed without killing anyone, with non-lethal weapon options and cyberware.

The open world metropolis Night City consists of six regions: the corporate downtown; immigrant-populated Watson; upscale Westbrook; suburban Haywood; gang-ridden Pacific; and industrial Santo Domingo. Its surroundings, Badlands, can also be explored. V navigates these locations on foot and in vehicles, which are viewed from either a third-person or first-person perspective. Pedestrians are vulnerable to collisions with vehicles. Depending on the location, law enforcement can be alerted if V commits a crime. Radio stations are available for listening. A full day-night cycle and dynamic weather affect the way non-player characters (NPCs) behave. V owns an apartment and a garage. Night City features non-English speaking characters whose languages can be translated with special implants. The "Braindance" is a device that allows V to experience the experiences of others. Branching dialogue allows for interaction with NPCs and quest actions. Experience points are earned from main quests and fuel stats - side quests grant "street cred", unlocking skills, vendors, locations and side quests. Quests are received from characters known as Fixers. Throughout the game, V is aided by various companions. Consumables, such as soft drinks, are used for healing, and items can be inspected in V's inventory. Mini-games include hacking, boxing, car racing, martial arts, and shooting. The player's choices during the game can lead to different endings.
