Starfield is an action RPG game from 2023 developed by Bethesda Game Studios. The game was announced in 2018 and is the first new intellectual property developed by Bethesda for over 25 years. Starfield released on September 6, 2023 for Microsoft Windows and Xbox X/S.
The action in Starfield takes place in a space extending beyond the Solar System at a distance of approximately 50 light years, called "„The Settled Systems„". Around 2310, the two largest factions in the game, United Colonies and Freestar Collective, are involved in a conflict called Colony War (The Colonial War). The game is set 20 years after the war, when the major factions enjoy an uneasy peace. The player takes on the role of a customizable character who is a member of Constellation, an organization of space explorers. The game can be played in a first-person or third-person perspective.
Gameplay
Starfield is an action role-playing video game (RPG). Players can switch between a first-person and third-person character perspective at any time during the game. Starfield offers an open world in the form of a region in the Milky Way galaxy, containing both fictional and existing planetary systems, with players able to land on over 1,000 planets and an unspecified number of moons and space stations. The majority of the game's landscapes are procedurally generated; they are subsequently modified and handcrafted content is developed around them.
The game generates the terrain and alien flora and fauna of a given planet depending on its star system and its atmosphere, as well as points of interest as the player approaches such a planet. The largest city in the game, New Atlantis, is the largest fictional city that Bethesda ever created. As the player explores the game world, they will encounter various non-playable characters (NPCs), some of whom may join the player's party. Such NPCs may assist the player in combat, carry items, or speak to other NPCs on the player's behalf during confrontations. Some may comment on the choices the player makes.
The player can deploy crew members at any of the outposts they have built. Each companion character has their own unique skills and abilities.
