The Legend of Korra

Rights holder / Distributor: Nickelodeon, Paramount Global

„The Legend of Korra“ (The Legend of Korra) is an American animated adventure series with fantasy elements, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Brian Konietzko. The sequel to the hugely successful "„Avatar: The Master of the Four Elements“" debuted on April 14, 2012. on Nickelodeon and aired for four seasons until December 19, 2014. Rather than repeating the story of its predecessor, the series takes a more mature and complex approach, exploring political, social, and philosophical themes that expand the familiar universe in impressive ways.

The action takes place about seven decades after the events of "„Avatar: The Master of the Four Elements“". The new Avatar is Korra - a young and talented waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe, who must master the remaining elements and restore balance between humans and spirits. Her path takes her to Republic City - a dynamic metropolis, where technological advances, political conflicts and social tensions present her with challenges unlike anything Aang has ever faced. Over the four seasons, Korra faces different adversaries, each of whom questions the very meaning of justice, freedom and power.

The voice acting is among the series' greatest strengths. Janet Varney gives Korra both confidence, temperament, and emotional depth, convincingly tracing the heroine's development through all stages of her growth. David Faustino, P.J. Byrne, Seymour Cassel, J.K. Simmons, Henry Rollins, Giancarlo Esposito, Dee Bradley Baker and Zelda Williams contribute to the rich gallery of memorable characters, and the numerous guest actors make the series one of the most highly voiced animated titles of its time.

The direction and animation impress with cinematic scope, dynamic fight scenes, and exceptional attention to detail. Studio Peace creates a striking visual, combining the traditional aesthetics of the Avatar world with industrial and art deco influences. The fights are choreographed with inspiration from real martial arts, and the music of Jeremy Zuckerman complements the atmosphere with emotional and memorable compositions.

Since its release, "„The Legend of Korra“" received high marks from critics for its mature script, character development, and impressive animation. Although some fans initially compared the series to "„Avatar: The Master of the Four Elements“", over time it established itself as an independent work with its own identity. Today, the production is often considered one of the best animated series of the 21st century and has had a serious impact on the development of television animation.

„The Legend of Korra“" successfully builds on the legacy of its predecessor by telling a more mature, bolder and emotionally charged story. Thanks to its strong characters, impressive animation, philosophical themes and high quality production, the series deservedly remains one of the most significant works in the history of modern animation.
