Invasion (2021 – 2025)

Invasion is a 2021 American fantasy television series created by Simon Kinberg and David Weil. The film premiered on the Apple TV+ streaming platform on October 22, 2021.

Invasion is an ambitious fantasy drama for Apple TV+ that examines an alien invasion through the lens of various human stories around the world. The film unfolds slowly, focusing on psychological and emotional experiences that stray from the standard stereotypes of the genre.

The series begins in 2021 and follows individual groups of people, from an American sheriff to Japanese aerospace engineers, from an Afghan soldier to a British boy from London. The invasion is presented as a global event, but the focus is on human reactions, not aliens. The pace is moderately slow, with a series of intimate and sometimes harrowing moments that set the stage for the larger conflict.

The first season is almost anthological – presenting individual stories (S. Neill’s pilot is a prime example). The second season expands the scope, improving reception and dynamics. And the third, launching on August 22, 2025, will bring the characters together in a common mission against the alien threat.

Invasion is an experimental sci-fi that focuses on human stories rather than visual effects. If you're looking for a slow-paced narrative with psychological depth, you might like this series. But if you're looking for fast-paced alien action, this might not be the show for you. However, season 3 brings anticipation for a transition and action that will bring together the film's plot threads.
