Nocturne is a 2026 American crime thriller television series created for television by Rowan Joffe based on the novels of the Swedish writing duo Lars Kepler. The script and television development are by John Hlavin, and the first two episodes were directed by Tim Van Patten. The premiere is scheduled for October 30, 2026 on the Apple TV movie platform, with the first season consisting of ten episodes. The main roles are: Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz and Stephen Graham.
Jonah Lynn is a former soldier working as a homicide detective in Philadelphia, but he eventually decides to leave the high-pressure city life behind and seek a quieter life in a small town in western Pennsylvania. His hopes for a new beginning are dashed when his family and the local community are threatened by the ruthless serial killer Jurek Walter. When a new lead on a long-lost victim emerges, the investigation takes a new turn. Jonah sends his adopted daughter and FBI agent Saga Bauer to get closer to the killer, but the dangerous assignment tests both their professional skills and their bond.
Rowan Joffe and John Hlavin bring to the small screen the dark atmosphere of crime novels, in which the investigation is not only a search for the perpetrator, but also a psychological test for the people involved in it. The contrast between the seemingly peaceful provincial town and the cruelty of the criminal creates the prerequisites for constant tension. The relationship between Jonah and Saga, which combines family affection with the heavy responsibility of professional investigation, is particularly interesting. The upcoming series relies on intricate mystery, psychological confrontation and the gradual revelation of secrets, instead of only dynamic action.
Liev Schreiber takes on the role of Jonah Lynn, an experienced detective with a military background who must deal with both a dangerous criminal and a threat to those closest to him. Zazie Beetz plays Saga Bauer, an FBI agent whose assignment takes her directly to a man capable of manipulating others. Stephen Graham plays Jurek Walter, a serial killer whose presence turns the investigation into a dangerous psychological game. The supporting cast also includes Bill Kemp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Purna Jagannathan and Gary Carr. The combination of established actors and complex characters creates the basis for dramatic confrontations, the impact of which will depend on the development of the story throughout the season.
Nocturne is a promising title for fans of dark crime stories, in which the pursuit of the criminal is accompanied by psychological games and personal sacrifices. The connection to the novels of Lars Kepler provides a rich literary basis, and the central trio of Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz and Stephen Graham draws attention to the acting opposition. The series has the potential to combine a tense investigation with a dramatic story about trust, fear and the boundaries that a person is willing to cross to protect their loved ones. With the premiere coming up, the final assessment will depend on how consistently the production develops the mystery and maintains the tension throughout all ten episodes.
