Thordur Palsson to direct film adaptation of 'Dead by Daylight'„
The film adaptation of the popular horror game "„Dead by Daylight“" now officially has a director. The project will be headed by the Icelander Tordur Palsson, known for his work on the film "„The Damned“" (2024) and the series "„The Valhalla Murders“" (2019 – 2020).
The news was announced during the game's 10th anniversary celebrations held in Montreal's historic Old Port district. The production is being produced by Blumhouse Atomic Monster Studios and Canadian company Behaviour Interactive, Canada's largest gaming studio and creator of the game itself.
Blumhouse Atomic Monster founder and CEO Jason Blum said the franchise's 10th anniversary is the perfect time for such an announcement, and that Thordur Palsson is the man tasked with bringing the experience from the gaming screen to theaters around the world.
James Wan, for his part, also expressed confidence in the choice of director. He emphasized that true horror only works when the viewer feels empathy for the characters fighting for their lives. According to him, Palsson has proven his ability to create a sense of claustrophobia and growing tension, which is key to such a story.
Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the game on which the project is based pits a group of survivors against a ruthless killer. As the pursuer seeks to capture them and sacrifice them to a sinister supernatural force, the victims must work together to find a way to escape.
Stephen Mulroney, chief product officer at Behaviour Interactive and one of the film's producers, also praised the new director. He said Palsson's distinctive visual style, his ability to build atmosphere, and his ability to maintain tension make him the perfect creative choice for the adaptation. He expressed confidence that the film will appeal to both longtime fans of the game and completely new audiences.
Thordur Palsson is represented by Sayle Screen, CAA, Sycamore Media and Jackoway Tyerman.
At this time, the studios have not yet announced an official premiere date for the film version of "„Dead by Daylight“", but with the selection of a director, the project is already taking one of the most important steps towards its realization.
