New movies in 2020

Next 2020 The year may seem far away right now, but that doesn't stop the major Hollywood studios from planning ahead, and to prove it, they're already lining up a slew of film projects that will be vying for your movie money. Some of the upcoming titles on the calendar are long-awaited sequels, but that's not all we're expecting to see, as the studios have also lined up new adaptations of existing works and potential blockbusters that will make the year epic in terms of movies.

It's never too early to start thinking about how we'll spend our time at the cinema in the coming months, so a calendar will help us, where we can start marking the days when the biggest and best productions, which we'll focus on in this article, will be released.

Bad Boys for Life – January 17th

Seventeen years after the release of Bad Boys II (Bad Boys 2), the audience will finally get a new part of the movie about the buddy cops. The film returns Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett, respectively, Miami Police detectives. Jerry Bruckheimer will produce the project, which will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilal Falla.

Bad Boys for Life had a long road to the big screen, and many fans thought the much-discussed film would never be seen, especially when it was pulled from the studio's film schedule and lost its original director due to scheduling conflicts. Either way, it now appears to be moving forward, marking a new opportunity for fans to enjoy Smith and Lawrence's new action adventures. No details about the film's script have been revealed at this time...

The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle – January 17

Dr. Dolittle is a character with a strange history. The physicist who could talk to animals was created by author Hugh Lofting in letters sent home to his children from the trenches of World War I. The character became the star of a series of children's books published in Victorian England from the 1920s to the 1950s.

Numerous adaptations have appeared in the decades since, including animations, radio plays, stage productions, and a lavish 1967 film musical starring Rex Harrison. Hearing the title, today's viewers will likely think of the 1997 film starring Eddie Murphy. Now the good doctor is back on the big screen with Robert Downey Jr., and the "animal" cast will be voiced by stars such as Rami Malek, John Cena, Emma Thompson, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland, Selena Gomez and Ralph Fiennes.

Birds of Prey – February 7th

DC and Warner Bros. seem determined to compete in 2020. Suicide Squad (Suicide Squad) was followed by mixed reviews, but fans loved it Margot Robbie in the role of Harley Quinn or at least they saw her potential. That's why she was given an even more central role in the film Birds of Prey, the full title of which (revealed by Robbie herself on Instagram) is Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Birds of Prey has been a familiar DC comic book title since its book debut in 1996. The TV series ran for one season in 2002, but the new movie looks set to be quite different (and almost certainly a big hit).

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell join Margot Robbie's character as "„Huntress“" and "„Black Canary„". The trio will team up with detective Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) to protect young Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) from the villain Black Mask (Ewan McGregor). Directed by Kathy Yang from a screenplay by Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey lands in theaters on February 7th.

Peter Rabbit – February 7th

Sony Pictures have prepared Peter Rabbit 2 (Peter Rabbit 2) as a sequel to the 2018 box office hit. The original film, based in part on the classic books by Beatrix Potter, stars James Corden as the voice of the title character.

Peter, along with his sisters, enjoy their peaceful life in Joe McGregor's vegetable garden, which is interrupted at one point by Joe's nephew, Thomas (Domhnall Gleeson), who arrives with the intention of driving all the rabbits out of their home.

The battle heats up when Thomas hatches a plan to kick Peter out of the garden, but finds that the resourceful rabbit is a serious contender. Rose Byrne, Colin Moody, and Sia also starred in the first film, but it's unclear which of the cast will return for the sequel, but with director-writer Will Gluck at the helm, the film is expected to be another big hit.

Bond 25 – February 14

There will always be tomorrow, as well as James Bond. The film, which follows 2014's Spectre, has had a rocky road, just like any other in the franchise's 50-year history. For a while, it was unclear whether Daniel Craig will return for a fifth mission, and the director of Trainspotting, Danny Boyle, he was sitting down, then getting up from the director's chair. Now, however, some facts about the 25th 007 film have finally become official.

Craig will indeed return for one last time in a film by Cary Fukunaga, the first American director to helm a Bond film. Interestingly, Craig's "reign" as Bond has been marked by criticism at both ends - mediocre reactions to "„Spectrum of comfort“" and "„Spectrum“" appeared between the overwhelming approval of "„Casino Royale“" and "„007 Coordinates: Skyfall“" - so this film is set for a resounding success. Important details, such as the title of the film and who will perform the music, have not yet been announced, but it is known that "„Bond 25“" will be released in theaters on Valentine's Day 2020.

Kingsman: The Great Game – February 14th

After the fairly successful sequel, which broadened the horizons and reinforced the value of its predecessor, the series "„Kingsman“" is becoming what every action movie dreams of - a full-fledged franchise. Except that the director Matthew Vaughn there is a new idea for a continuation of the characters of Taron Edgerton and Colin Firth, he also has a vision for a spin-off story to the film, a TV series, and a prequel. The prequel will arrive for Valentine's Day 2020, according to Fox's schedule.

Kingsman: The Great Game will "probe" the origins of the main spy organization of the First World War. Little is known about the script, but the prequel will "shine" a lot of European gentlemen, such as Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Brühl, Charles Dance, Rhys Ifans and Matthew Goode. Vaughn will team up with Edgerton and Firth for "„Kingsman 3“" right after the filming of "„The Great Game“" in 2019.

Bloodshot – February 21st

After his participation in the films "„Guardians of the Galaxy“" on Marvel, Vin Diesel continues his cinematic momentum towards another kind of comic book movie. It is said that the actor from "„Fast and Furious“" will star in Sony's bloody film "„Bloodshot„". The film, which is an adaptation of a successful comic book series, is about a mortally wounded soldier who is revived through innovative nanotechnology and tasked with assembling a group of superpowered outsiders known as the "harbringers.".

The mid-1980s to early 1990s proved to be a fertile ground for cyborg stories, and now, with the success of violent comic book movies like Logan and Deadpool, we expect to see a bit of gore in this action flick as well.

Bloodshot will be helmed by debuting actor and visual effects specialist Dave Wilson, and will also star Eiza Gonzalez, Michael Sheen, Toby Kebble, and Sam Heughan.

GI Joe: Ever Vigilant – March 27

Hasbro's American heroes will return to the big screen in 2020 with GI Joe: Ever Vigilant, although it is not yet known who the actors will be in the film. Paramount is preparing the third film in the series, preceded by GI Joe: Retaliation since 2013 and GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra Since 2011, the film studio has been working to bring Dwayne Johnson back to the role.

It's unclear whether Channing Tatum and Bruce Willis will reprise their roles as Joe, but "The Last Jedi: The Return of Xander Cage" director DJ Caruso will be in charge of most of the development of the project. Ever Vigilant is rumored to be the start of Hasbro's cinematic universe, similar to Marvel's. Regardless of which path they take, the previous films in the series have featured action and adventure, which is expected to be combined in the third.

Mulan – March 27

Disney is preparing to turn another of its most popular animations into an epic feature film in 2020, debuting a revamped version of "„Mulan„". The film, which was originally scheduled for release in 2018 but was postponed, will be directed by Niki Caro from a script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

The delay in the film's release occurred because it took Disney about a year to find their star, searching all over the world. They eventually settled on the Chinese actress. Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu. Liu is one of China's most popular actresses and is nicknamed "„Fairy Sister“" (Literal translation: fairy sister), because of her innocent appearance. Leading the way with the warrior princess, the roles of the other characters revolve around the stars Jet Li, Donnie Yen and Jason Scott Lee. The film's music is currently the subject of various rumors. Liu's filmography shows that she has enough action experience for the role and would be a great fit for the popular Disney princess.

Fast & Furious 9 – April 10

Viewers have to wait an additional year for Fast and Furious 9, but in the meantime they will receive a film supplement to the series with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, which will be released in spring 2019. Although we don't know where the saga will continue, the suspense of waiting will likely make the movie experience even more epic than the previous installments.

You can probably count on most of your favorite actors to return, and the series' growing profile means there's always a chance that even bigger names will join the cast.

Godzilla vs. Kong – May 22

Movie fans will finally get an answer to an "ancient" question in 2020, when Godzilla and King Kong will face off on the big screen. Director Adam Wingard has already assured fans that this one in a project about the two monsters will definitely be a winner, unlike the 1962 film, in which the giant creatures first met. This will be the fourth film in the film studio's monster universe Legendary, which began in 2014 with "„Godzilla“" and continued in "„Kong: Skull Island„".

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (Godzilla: King of the Monsters) will expand this world in 2019, bringing with it old favorites like Mothra and Rodan, setting the stage for this clash of the titans. Godzilla vs. Kong is the biggest project yet for Wingard, whose previous directorial credits include "You're Next," "The Guest," and "Blair Witch." And if the clash of these two screen icons isn't enough for fans, the film will also feature an impressive cast. Millie Bobby Brown from "„Stranger Things“" will reprise his role from "King of the Monsters," and Danai Gurira from "„Black Panther“" and Julian Dennison from "„Deadpool 2“" are also attached to the team.

Wonder Woman 1984 – June 5

Wonder Woman is the most critically acclaimed film of 2017 from the film universe of DC. Then it makes sense for the reincarnation of Gal Gadot as the Amazon warrior is quickly brought back to the big screen, while Superman and Batman are left to deal with a legion of problems standing in the way of their next appearance. Diana's second solo adventure has also had its share of delays, but the film has been pushed back from its original 2019 release date to June 5, 2020.

When the film finally arrives, it will bring with it a dose of the past, as the title suggests. Partly filling the time period between the first film, set during World War I, and the character's appearance in "„Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice„", in Wonder Woman 1984 we will see the return of Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright and director Patty Jenkins. Kristen Wiig will also join the team, clashing with Diana in the Soviet Union.

Candyman – June 12

It seems like the fate of successful horror films is to be "revived." This has been true for almost the entire 21st century so far, and since the dawn of the new millennium we've seen remakes of "„The Texas Chainsaw Massacre„", "„Friday the 13th„", "„Nightmare on Elm Street“" and "„Halloween„". The latest, in which David Gordon Green and Danny McBride took on Michael Myers, has been arguably the biggest hit of them all. Part of that success is thanks to 2018's Halloween, which is also a sequel to John Carpenter's 1978 masterpiece, and which simply ignores all that came in between.

Another long-awaited sequel seems poised for a similar development. Candyman, released in 1992, was based on a story by Hellraiser creator Clive Barker and starred Tony Todd as the supernatural killer with bees coming out of his mouth. It's also perfect material for Jordan Peele, who produced and co-wrote the new film. Candyman, scheduled for release in theaters on June 12, 2020. The film, directed by Nia DaCosta, is said to be a "spiritual sequel" that will take us back to the improved and renovated neighborhood of the original. The cast has not been announced yet, but Todd will likely be "reinvolved" again to some extent.

Top Gun: Maverick – June 26

Director Joseph Kosinski made his debut with "„Tron: The Covenant“" from 2010, a sequel for a generation that wasn't even born when its predecessor was made. Now he'll do the same with Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 war film, due out in 2020. Like "Creed," the new film will see the original film's hero now taking his dead friend's son under his wing.

The director of Top Gun, Tony Scott, had a vision for a sequel, but his death in 2010 put a stop to those plans. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who remained committed to the idea, hired Kosinski and brought back the stars of the first film, Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. Miles Teller will play Gus' son, alongside Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Ed Harris. Much of the success of Top Gun there is also the popular soundtrack, and Maverick will pay attention to this, bringing back Harold Faltermeyer to compose the music and Kenny Loggins to record a new version of "„Danger Zone„".

In the Heights – June 26

Lin-Manuel Miranda has become a recognizable face of our time. Not only because he earned a Pulitzer Prize for his remarkable performance in „Hamilton“ and made us revel in his presence in family films and television. Director John M. Chu created a cultural event in 2018 with „Crazy Rich Asians„". The combination of these two "forces" is sure to create a memorable appearance on the upcoming film landscape.

We expect this to happen in 2020 with Chu's adaptation of the Broadway musical "„In the Heights„", which will star Miranda. Although little is known about the film so far, it will show the lives of Hispanic-American citizens in the neighborhood "„Washington Heights“" in New York City. Miranda himself will play Usnavi, a small-time businessman who dreams of returning to his family home in the Dominican Republic. After a long and difficult development, the film will finally hit theaters on June 26, 2020.

Minions 2 – July 3

No matter how great the successes of the animation film studio Illumination, it will always be known for the creation of the Minions, and that won't soon be forgotten. The little yellow mischievous creatures have dominated the box office since the debut of "„I, the damned one“" in 2010, after two more sequels and their own film, so they're getting another one for the big screen.

Minions 2 (Minions 2) was expected after the first film took over cinemas and toy stores, and Illumination proved through the films "„I, the damned one„"that behind this immense power lies a lot of creativity and imagination. We still don't know what the little yellowjackets will be doing in their new film, but from the first film we can assume that it will pay attention to their previous adventures with a younger Gru. We believe that whatever the studio creates, it will be fun for the whole family.".

Ghostbusters – July 10

It's hard to keep a movie production secret in the age of movie news sites. When a movie is part of a decades-old franchise that's often the subject of fan debate, it's common to learn the development steps of a new sequel. Filmmaker Jason Reitman has revealed not only that he's working on a new movie for "„Ghostbusters“" (Ghostbusters), but also that it already has a trailer (or rather a "sneak peek") announcing the film's arrival in 2020.

The son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, Jason Reitman has already established himself as a director with dramas like Juno and Tully. Now he's set to direct and co-write, with Jill Keenan, the new sequel to the story he watched on set as a child.

There are enough reasons for fans to be frustrated by "„Ghostbusters“" from 2016 by Paul Feig, but it's not too late to bring things back to the original timeline. It remains to be seen who else will be "involved" in the new sequel to the film...

Jungle Cruise – July 24

In addition to the powerful arsenal of brands such as "„Star Wars„", Marvel and intellectual property once owned by Fox, Disney has a few franchises in its productions that aren't exactly series, but more like fads. For example, the live-action remakes of their animated classics have exploded with incredible results. Their attempts to create a blockbuster out of a classic attraction from their parks have been less successful. Disneyland (Disneyland).

Now, however, the film studio (Disney) seems to have decided to use the star power of two of their always-liked actors, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, to make a movie out of a beloved park attraction. The Jungle Cruise has been a part of Disneyland since the park opened in 1955, and it's a "material" that perfectly fits Johnson's goofy side.

Coming to America August 2 – 7

„"„Arrival in America“" was released in 1982 with the star rise of Eddie Murphy. The actor, who also co-wrote the story, played the role of Prince Akeem, heir to the throne of the fictional African nation. Zamunda (ZamundaDetermined to escape his arranged marriage and find a free-spirited woman to fall in love with, he sets off for New York City, accompanied by his trusted sidekick Sammy (Arsenio Hall). The film was a box office smash, kicking off an explosively successful decade for Murphy, giving him his first taste of playing multiple roles.

After a period of rumors, the sequel to "„Arrival in America“" has been officially announced and is set for release on August 7, 2020. Murphy made an enthusiastic statement confirming the film project, which will send the prince to Zamunda back to America after 30 years to search for his long-lost son. The supporting cast Arsenio Hall, Sherry Headley, John Amos and James Earl Jones are also rumored to appear. Kenya Barris is working on the script, and Craig Brewer is taking over from the director of the first film, John Landis.

Monster Hunter – September 4

Writer-director Paul Anderson has a career built on video game adaptations. Over the past 25 years, he's given us the movies Mortal Kombat, DOA: Dead or Alive and the most notable of them – the series Resident Evil. Now he's reuniting with the star of "„Contagious evil„", Milla Jovovich, to make another big screen movie based on the game of Capcom, Monster Hunter.

These fantasy games have been gaining fans since their release in 2004, and there's no end in sight, after its latest sequel, "„Monster Hunter: World„", was one of the best-selling video games of 2018. With the supporting cast, Tony Jha and Ron Perlman, Jovovich takes on the role of the leader of a platoon of soldiers transported from our planet to a savage fantasy world.

Bios – October 2

Tom Hanks will be the last man on Earth in his 2020 fantasy film, Bios. Details of the film's script are being kept under wraps, but we do know that Hanks' character, Finch, is an ailing inventor who happens to be the last man on the planet. The film, described as "a film about love, friendship and the meaning of human life," sees Finch building a robot to protect his dog after he dies.

Craig Luke, the second video assistant of "„Doctor Strange“" and Ivor Powell, co-producer of "„Blade Runner„", are the screenwriters of Bios, which will be directed by the director of "„Game of Thrones„", Miguel Sapochnik. Luke, Sapochnik, Robert Zemeckis and Andy Berman are executive producers, while Powell, Kevin Miser (The Scorpion King), Jack Rapke and Jackie Levine (Soldiers of Steel) are producers. While we don't know specific details yet, with this creative team, Bios is about to be an impressive film.

Red Notice – November 13

Dwayne Johnson and director Rawson Marshall Thurber are set to reunite in 2020 for the action comedy „Red Notice„". In this film, Johnson plays an Interpol agent who is on the trail of the world's most wanted art thief. The film's title refers to the most serious of Interpol's eight bulletins related to the arrest of wanted criminals.

Johnson's former partner from "„Fast and Furious„", Wonder Woman Gal Gadot will also join him. Originally scheduled for a summer release, Red Notice will hit theaters in mid-November 2020.

The film sparked a bidding war between several major film studios and ended up netting Johnson a $20 million fee. Thurber, who previously worked on Dodgeball and We're the Millers, also received a $10 million check for writing and directing the film, both of which are remarkably high salaries for a film without a sequel or franchise. Still, Johnson is one of Hollywood's biggest actors, and audiences always enjoy seeing his action-packed adventures.

Dune – November 20

The novel "„Dune“" (Dune) by Frank Herbert in 1965 had a major impact on the world of science fiction, which is probably why filmmakers have been trying for decades to bring Herbert's universe to the big screen. Avant-garde director Alejandro Jodorowsky made an ambitious attempt in the 1970s that was so legendary that a documentary was made about it. In 1984. David Lynch led a blockbuster version of Dune, but since the film had become a cult classic, many moviegoers (including Lynch himself) found it "unsatisfactory." A multi-episode television series was aired in 2000, but it "suffered" from a limited television budget.

Now the director Denis Villeneuve hopes to turn things around. Its strongest asset so far is the already solid cast, which includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Jason Momoa. Another plus of the production is that the film will focus only on the first half of Herbert's novel, avoiding the crowded confusion of Lynch's film.
