„"One Gram of Life" – the mission of the film, based on a true story

„One gram of life“ – the new film project by director Atanas Mihaylov (producers: Atanas Mihaylov, Cinema Academy for Talents, Devil Cinema, Zippo and Slash) draws attention to one of the most serious and painful problems of our time – the spread and use of narcotics among adolescents. The film is based on real cases and experiences, revealing the deep personal, family and social consequences of drugs and the painful breakdown of the relationship between children and parents. The film opens in cinemas across the country on November 14, and the cast includes Ivaylo Zahariev, Kaloyan M. Paterkov, Tervel Pulev, Dobi Glavincheva, Simona Yordanova, Pavel Dimchev, Leo Panov and Alexander Vezenkov.

„One gram of life“" is not a standalone work of art, but part of a broader public cause. It continues the National Parental Initiative of the same name, created by Mariela Kirova and Kalin Taushanov, whose main goal is prevention - to reach children and adults before their first contact with drugs and to show that the only true choice is a life without addiction.

The plot follows the stories of four families whose children begin experimenting with drugs at school age. The reasons are varied – peer pressure, a desire for acceptance, a lack of communication at home, excessive expectations or emotional loneliness – but the consequences invariably lead to a spiral of pain, disintegration and loss. The film does not romanticize a single moment, but shows how even „harmless“ beginnings can open the door to a bottomless abyss, from which getting out is often painful and sometimes impossible.

The stories of Silvia, Christina, Victoria and Victor gradually intertwine, forming a complete picture of a hidden but widespread problem. The film touches on painful topics such as the spread of drugs in schools, violence and bullying of the more vulnerable, manipulation by "friends" and the insidious forms of modern designer drugs, often disguised as harmless candies or treats. The danger does not pass even the smallest ones - it comes quietly, disguised and difficult to recognize.

The film also addresses the stigma society places on addicts – the quick judgments, the lack of empathy, and the sense that everyone must save themselves. Instead, „One gram of life“" asks uncomfortable questions: why children seek escape, where dialogue in the family is lost, and when ambition turns into pressure that breaks.

The film also clearly warns about modern synthetic drugs – amphetamines, methamphetamines and other substances that destroy the body in an extremely short time. The data shared by the creators is alarming: the first contact with drugs already occurs between the ages of 9 and 10 – a fact that sounds like a strong alarm for the entire society.

The confession of one of the characters sounds symbolic and poignant: "At first I thought I needed one gram to live well. Now I need one gram to live at all." With these words, the film clearly formulates its mission - to prevent more broken destinies and lost lives.

„One gram of life“" aims not just to tell true stories, but to open a space for reflection, conversation and action. Through the power of cinema, it seeks dialogue between children, parents and society, insisting that the time to react is now. As director Atanas Mihaylov emphasizes, drugs are everywhere and any family can face this nightmare. The film is an invitation for awareness, empathy and prevention – before it is too late.
