Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin Return for 'Sicario 3'„

It seems that the wait for "„Sicario 3“" is finally coming to an end. Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin will return for the third film in the crime series, sources have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. The news puts the three characters, who are among the most memorable faces of the original 2015 film, back in the spotlight.

The return of the cast means that del Toro will once again play Alejandro Hillick, Brolin will reprise his role as Matt Graver, and Blunt will reprise her role as agent Kate Macer. For "„Sicario 3“"Director Padraic McKinley and screenwriter Stephen Knight have already been roped in, who will work behind the camera and on the script, respectively.

The third part will continue the story after Sicario 2 (Sicario: Day of the Soldado) from 2018, which was a sequel to "„Sicario“" by Denis Villeneuve from 2015. The second film was directed by Stefano Sollima and followed federal agent Matt Graver, who enlists Alejandro in a dangerous operation against Mexican drug cartels. The goal is to stop the transfer of terrorists across the border into the United States.

Details about the plot of "„Sicario 3“" are not yet revealed. The project was also delayed due to the Hollywood writers' strike in 2023, and the third film is expected to put a definitive end to the story started by screenwriter Taylor Sheridan in the first two parts.

As early as 2023, producer Molly Smith, who runs Black Label Media with her sister Rachel Smith and twins Trent and Tad Luckinbill, said the project was close to being realized. According to her, Sheridan always saw the story as a trilogy and the creators wanted to conclude it in a way that would live up to the expectations of fans of the series.

The third film will be produced by Molly Smith and the Luckybill twins of Black Label Media, Basil Iwainick and Erica Lee of Thunder Road, and Ed McDonnell. Black Label Media is behind the production of the previous two films,„Sicario“", and the company is also among the producers of the multi-award winning "La La Land".

„Sicario“" from 2015 was directed by Denis Villeneuve and received three Oscar nominations, including for cinematography, music and sound editing. Four years later, "„Sicario 2“" continued the story without the participation of Emily Blunt, but with Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin in the central roles.

No premiere date has been announced for "„Sicario 3“", nor is it clear when filming will begin. However, the return of the three main actors is a major step forward for a project that fans have been anticipating for years.
