Woken (2023)

Woken is a 2023 Irish-Italian adventure fantasy horror thriller film directed by Alan Friel from a screenplay by Alan Friel and Rebecca Pollock. The film is set to be released in Italy on 4 July 2024.

After experiencing an accident, the main character Anna (Erin Kellyman) wakes up on a remote island with amnesia and an unknown stage of pregnancy, during a global pandemic.

Anna discovers that she cannot rely on the outside world – no one inspires her trust. With her own strength, she begins to unravel the mystery of the island and the role of her husband and her neighbors, who seem suspicious. The film balances between slow-burn psychodrama and post-apocalyptic thriller, emphasizing the feeling of isolation and uncertainty.

The cinematography relies on minimalist but tense scenes of windswept shores and an empty house. The sound – waves, frost, wind – contributes to the feeling of claustrophobia and uncertainty. The music is discreet, allowing the natural audio to form the emotional background.

„Woken“" is a captivating post-apocalyptic horror, with a strong emphasis on characters and atmosphere. It does not offer epic twists, but meets the viewer in the zone of quiet, cold anxiety. Suitable for fans of slow-burn mysteries with a psychological nuance.
