What happened to Monday? (What Happened to Monday / Seven Sisters) is a 2017 dystopian science fiction film directed by Max Botkin and Kerry Williamson from a screenplay by Tommy Wirkola. The film was released in the United Kingdom on 18 August 2017.
In a not-so-distant future, where overpopulation and food shortages have forced the government to take radical birth control measures, allowing parents to have only one child, seven twin sisters (all played by Noomi Rapace) lead a hidden existence, pursued by the Child Distribution Bureau.
The bureau, run by the cruel Nicolette Cayman (Glenn Close), imposes a strict family planning program, which the sisters deceive by assuming the identity of one person – Karen Setman.
Trained by their grandfather (William Defoe), who raises them and gives them names – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday – each of them can go out once a week on the day corresponding to their name, but can only be themselves in the prison of their own apartment. This continues until the day Monday does not come home.
