The Pickup is a 2025 American comedy action film directed by Tim Story from a screenplay by Kevin Burrows and Matt Maider. The film premiered on the Amazon Prime Video movie platform on August 6, 2025.
The story begins as a simple nighttime errand: two security guards, Russell (Eddie Murphy) and Travis (Pete Davidson), are carrying a huge cash box when they unexpectedly fall into a trap. After being attacked by an organized gang led by the resourceful Zoe (Kiki Palmer), the situation turns upside down – they not only lose the contents, but are thrust into a risky plan to rob a casino.
Eddie Murphy takes on the role of an experienced security guard who must not only protect the tape, but also deal with unexpected complications in his personal life - such as a duel between professional and family, where Russell's wife is the center of attention.
Tim Story sets a fast pace, weaving tension and comedy in a well-established recipe – from funny lines and awkward situations to gun chases and beatings. His vision is typically spectacular: dynamic shots, sharp editing and breathtaking action moments.
The Pickup is a perfect mix of wit and action. The main tandem — Murphy and Davidson — gives an unexpectedly fresh twist to a plot filled with dramatic tension and funny misunderstandings. If you are looking for an action-comedy with a fast pace, emphasized dynamics and a pinch of personal drama — this is the film that keeps the sharpness and fun until the last minute.
