The Good Giant (2016)

The BFG

The Good Giant / GDV (The BFG / The Big Friendly Giant) is an American family fantasy film directed by Steven Spielberg written by Melissa Mathison. The film premiered on July 1, 2016 in the United States.

GDV is the Big Good Giant, who is not like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. The giant with huge ears and a pungent smell is pleasantly silly and keeps to himself most of the time. There are other giants in his country who are twice as big and at least twice as scary, and are even said to have eaten people, but GDV prefers to eat other things. Before arriving in Giant Country, cautious 10-year-old Sophie from London is initially frightened by the mysterious giant who has brought her to his cave, but she soon realizes that GDV is actually quite gentle and charming, and because she has never met a giant before, she has many questions. GDV takes Sophie to the land of dreams, where he collects dreams and sends them to children, explaining to her all about the magic and mystery of dreams.

With both of them alone in the world, their affection for each other quickly grows. However, Sophie's presence in Giant Country attracts the unwanted attention of the other giants, who become increasingly annoying. Spielberg says that this is a story about friendship, loyalty and protecting friends, and it's a story that shows that even a little girl can help a big giant solve his biggest problems. Sophie and the GDV soon travel to London to meet with Queen Victoria (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of a dangerous giant situation, but first they must convince the Queen and her maid Mary (Rebecca Hall) that giants really exist. Together, they devise a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all.
