The favorite (The Favourite) is a 2018 British-American historical black comedy film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara. The film premiered in Bulgaria on February 8, 2019.
The early 18th century. England is at war with France, but that doesn't stop duck racing and pineapple eating from flourishing. The frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) takes the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead, while simultaneously caring for Anne's ailing health and volatile moods.
When the new maid Abigail arrives (Emma Stone), her charm captivates Sarah and she takes her under her wing, a chance for Abigail to return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war begin to take up too much of Sarah's time, Abigail steps into the role of companion to the queen. Their growing friendship gives her a chance to fulfill her ambitions, and she will let nothing stand in their way.
