The Astronaut (2025)

The Astronaut is a 2025 American fantasy horror thriller film directed by Jess Varley from a screenplay by Jess Varley. The film is set to be released in the United States on March 7, 2025.

Sam Walker, an astronaut, returns from her first space mission, but things are not the same - she was rescued from the ocean after an accident, and the government places her in a guarded quarantine house under supervision for medical research.

As she recovers, disturbing unexplained phenomena begin to occur—physical symptoms, hallucinations, a sense of presence that may not be just imagination. Sam begins to wonder if an alien being has followed her from outer space.

Spectacular atmosphere and visual style - especially in the first half of the film, there is a sense of tension and mystery. The interior of the safe house is used effectively, creating a sense of isolation and claustrophobia.

The implementation of Kate Mara is strong — she carries much of the emotional weight of the film, managing to convey the struggle between reason and horror. The supporting roles of Laurence Fishburne and Gabriel Luna they add humanity and complicate relationships to the plot.

The theme of "influence from space," the idea that something may have "followed" the heroine on her mission, is promising and carries the potential for awe and philosophical reflection.

The Astronaut is a film with high ambitions, carrying an almost horror atmosphere with a sci-fi element. It excels in building tension and a sense of alien invasion, but is partially diluted by compromises in the middle and end. For fans of space mystery and horror, the film offers interesting moments — but does not fully satisfy with its conclusion.
