which tells the true story of the attempted escape from the Nazi death camp in Chelmno during World War II. The film focuses on Michael Podhlebnik (Jeremy Newmark Jones) and Solomon Wiener (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), two Jewish prisoners who managed to escape from the camp and became the first witnesses to reveal to the world the mass murders committed there.
At the Chelmno camp, the first Nazi camp designed exclusively for mass extermination, prisoners were forced to work as gravediggers, burying the bodies of those killed in gas vans. Podhlebnik and Wiener, realizing the horrors they witnessed, decided to escape to warn the world about what was happening. Their testimony became the first official evidence of the Holocaust, broadcast on the BBC in June 1942 and published in The New York Times in July of that year.
The film is the result of ten years of research by director Lior Geller, who worked closely with historians and the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Center in Jerusalem to authentically present this little-known story. The World Will Tremble premiered on January 16, 2025, at the Miami Jewish Film Festival, and was released in theaters in the United States on March 14, 2025.
Critics praised the film for its powerful portrayal of the Holocaust and the strong performances of the cast. Keith Garlington noted, "With 'The World Will Tremble,' Lior Geller joins the talented chorus of cinematic voices who have responsibly ensured that the Holocaust is remembered for the evil it was and the generational pain it caused."
