Starbright (2026)

Starbright is a 2026 American adventure fantasy film directed by Francesco Lucente from a screenplay by Joseph Bitonti, Francesco Lucente, and Olympia Lucente. The film is set to be released in the United States on February 27, 2026.

„Starbright“is an ambitious modern fairy tale that mixes fantasy, adventure and crime elements into an unusual, almost nostalgic story. The film seeks to bring back the feeling of classic fairy tales, but refracted through a harsher and more realistic world. This is not just a story about magic – it is a story about hope, choice and the inner light that every person carries.

The story follows young Aisling, a lonely girl living with her grandparents in a small, almost forgotten town. Her life is quiet, even monotonous, but she has a burning desire for something more. One night, during an eclipse, the sky literally splits and a star falls to the ground - an event that changes everything. Aisling discovers that this is not just a celestial body, but something alive, fragile and full of power. Soon after, the mysterious Raphael appears - a figure who is neither fully human nor anything else. He entrusts Aisling with the task of guarding this "living light", without fully revealing its nature.

But the miracle does not remain hidden. A group of dangerous men witness the power of the star and begin a pursuit driven by greed and a desire for control. Thus begins an escape that gradually turns into a journey - not only physical, but also inner. Along the way, Aisling meets Joshua - a mysterious ally who helps her face the threats. Together they go through a series of trials that question not only what the power of the star is, but also what it means to believe, change and move forward. The film develops the story gradually, emphasizing atmosphere and emotional choices rather than quick twists.

Francesco Lucente’s direction is clearly inspired by classic 1980s fantasy films – with a poetic tone, a slow pace and a strong visual contrast between light and dark. The camera often lingers on details – starlight, night landscapes, empty spaces – creating a sense of solitude and magic at the same time. The film relies less on spectacular effects than on mood and symbolism. This may seem slow to some viewers, but that is precisely its charm.

Alexandra Dowling As Aisling, she carries the film's weight. She builds an image of a vulnerable but gradually strengthening heroine who changes before the viewer's eyes.
John Rhys-Davies as Raphael – he brings mystique and weight to the role. His presence is both warm and menacing, like a figure from ancient legend.
Diego Boneta as Joshua – a charismatic and down-to-earth counterpoint to the fantastical elements. He brings human warmth and balance.
Ted Levine as Bud – a strict but caring grandfather who represents the connection to reality.
Becky Ann Baker like Teresa – a symbol of home and stability.
Gbenga Akinnagbe as Peter – one of the antagonists, personifying greed and destructive human nature.
The supporting cast adds to the sense of a world where magic exists alongside harsh reality.

„Starbright“" is a film that will not appeal to everyone. It is slower, more contemplative, and heavily symbolic. But for viewers looking for a modern tale with emotional depth, it is a beautiful and heartfelt experience. The film does not strive to impress with scale, but with feeling - and that is where it excels. It is a story about light in the darkness, but also about choosing to follow it.
