Semper Fi (2019)

Semper Fi is a 2019 American action thriller film directed by Henry Alex Ruben from a screenplay by Sean Mullin and Henry Alex Ruben. The film was released in the United States on October 4, 2019.

In 2005, in the small town of Bridgewater, New York, five friends—Chris "Cal" Callahan (Jai Courtney), Teddy "Oyster" (Nat Wolff), Jagger (Finn Wittrock), Milk (Bo Knapp) and Snowball (Arturo Castro) — share a strong bond built over the years. Cal is a police officer and the half-brother of the impulsive Oyster, who has a criminal past. The group serves together in the Marine Corps Reserve, with Cal as their sergeant.

After an incident at a bar in which Oyster unintentionally kills a man, Cal, driven by his duty to the law, arrests his brother, despite his personal feelings. Oyster is sentenced to 25 years in prison, where he is the victim of abuse by guards.

Meanwhile, Cal and his friends are sent on a mission to Iraq, where they are confronted with the harsh realities of war. Upon his return, Cal is racked with guilt and powerlessness to help his brother. When all legal attempts at appeal fail, Cal decides to take matters into his own hands.

With the help of his friends, Cal orchestrates a risky plan to break Oyster out of prison and transfer him to Canada. The operation is successful, but Cal turns himself in to the authorities, taking responsibility for his actions.
