Drugs. They suck the mind, body and soul. Once addicted, there is no stopping. Four lives. Four addicts. Four failures. Although they strive for greatness, they are defeated by their addiction. As we watch the lives of the victims spiral out of control, we witness the dirtiest and ugliest parts of the underworld that addicts inhabit. A shocking and enlightening film waiting to be seen by addicts and ordinary viewers alike.
The film tells the story of the widow Sarah (Ellen Burstyn), who dreams of being featured on national television, participating in a game show. As she has gained weight with age and wants to lose weight, she seeks help from a doctor, who prescribes her amphetamines, to which she slowly becomes addicted.
Her son Harry (Jared Leto) is a heroin dealer in New York, trying to earn money so he can live with his girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly). However, after the favorable and joyful summer, the cold seasons come, after which spring will never come for them again.
