Operation Taco Gary's (2024)
Operation Taco Gary's (literal translation: Operation Taco Gary) is a 2024 American fantasy comedy film directed by Mikey Kay from a screenplay by Mikey Kay. The film is set to be released in the United States on February 27, 2026.
Operation Taco Gary's is a 2024 American science fiction action comedy film written and directed by Michael Kwame, his first feature-length directorial effort. The film combines travel, absurd conspiracy theories, and comedic situations with a light sci-fi twist, making it a standout among the festival titles of the year.
Danny and Luke are brothers who embark on a road trip across the United States to help Luke start a new life and job in Canada. Danny is convinced that there is a grand global conspiracy behind everything, something to do with the fast-food chain Taco Gary's. As the journey progresses, however, a "simple" family trip becomes a rollercoaster of absurd situations, strange setbacks, and paranoia that challenges both their sanity and the bond between the brothers.
The film skillfully balances comedy, road trip story, and light sci-fi mystery, adding unexpected twists and situations that are often so illogical that they become part of the humor of the plot.
Kwame chooses a dynamic, fast-paced and intense visual feel that emphasizes the chaotic nature of the adventure. The camera follows the characters through ever-changing situations—from roadside motels to strange objects and encounters—keeping the story moving. The style is similar to a road movie, but with comedic and sci-fi elements that often appear unexpectedly and serve both to advance the plot and to play with the audience’s genre expectations.
Simon Rex leads the film as Danny, the "conspiratorial brother" whose energy and outlandish theories drive much of the film's comedic charge.
Dustin Milligan is Luke—calmer and more rational, he must deal with the chaos that Danny brings as he tries to start a new chapter in his life.
Brenda Song performed by Alison, who provides help and support to the brothers on their journey.
Jason Biggs appears as himself, adding a meta-comedic element to the story.
Doug Jones adds his unique physiognomy as Elder — a character who stands on the border between serious and strange.
Also in supporting roles are Arturo Castro (Thiago), Tony Cavallero (Kyle) and others who contribute to the wild array of characters and situations along the way.
Operation Taco Gary's is an energetic, absurd, and offbeat comedy that plays on the combination of road trip and conspiracy. It's a film that doesn't take itself too seriously—often its chaotic logic is a source of humor and entertainment.
Although critical reviews are polarized (some find the humor ridiculous, others refreshingly wild), Operation Taco Gary's is presented as an original and entertaining offering for fans of strange, unexpected comedies with an action flavor.
