Green Paper (2018)

Green Book

Green Paper (Green Book) is a 2018 American film directed by Peter Farrelly from a screenplay by Nick Vallelonga, Brian Hayes Curry, and Peter Farrelly. The film was released in the United States on November 16, 2018.

New York, player Tony Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen), nicknamed "Tony Lip" (literal translation: Tony the Mouth, Tony the Arrogant) is looking for a new job after his nightclub is closed for renovations. Tony ends up interviewing to be a driver for the famous pianist Don "Doc" Shirley (Mahershala Ali), but their first meeting doesn't go well, as Tony's hot-tempered and uncultured demeanor clashes with Don's refined and reserved nature. Don still hires Tony on the recommendation of others, as he needs someone to help him stay out of trouble during an 8-week concert tour of the Deep South. The plan is to return home for Christmas.

Tony receives a copy of The Green Paper Don's Recording Studio - a guide for black travelers to find safe havens while wandering the South. The tour begins in the Midwest, then heads south. Tony and Don have trouble dealing with their differences, as Tony feels uncomfortable when asked to be polite, and Don is disgusted by Tony's habits.

Tony is at one point impressed by Don's talent and increasingly disgusted by the discriminatory attitude of the locals towards Don when he is not on stage. After an incident at a bar leads to a threat to Don's life from a group of white men, Tony saves him by pointing a gun at them and instructs him not to go out again without him for the rest of the tour...
