Hammer, Hammer (2015)

Knock Knock

Hammer, hammer (Knock Knock) is a 2015 Chilean-American crime thriller film directed by Eli Roth from a screenplay by Eli Roth, Guillermo Amoedo, and Nicolas Lopez. The film was released in the United States on October 9, 2015.

Eli Roth is known for his provocative style and penchant for suspense that explores the moral boundaries of his characters. The film rhymes between temptation and punishment, showing how an ordinary person can become a victim of their own weaknesses.

The story begins quietly — architect Evan Weber (Keanu Reeves), a model father and husband, is left home alone while his family travels for the weekend. However, the night takes an unexpected turn when two beautiful young women, Belle (Ana de Armas) and Genesis (Lorenza Izzo), seeking help after getting lost in the rain.

What seems like a harmless kindness turns into a nightmare - after flirtation, temptation and a fateful mistake, Evan finds himself trapped by the two, who reveal that this is no coincidence. Gradually, they destroy not only his home, but also his life, subjecting him to psychological and physical torture in the name of their perverted "justice".

The film takes place almost entirely in one space — Evan's house, transformed into a scene of moral and mental decay.

Eli Roth ("„The Hotel of Horrors“, „Death Hut“") uses minimalist environments and a realistic visual style to enhance the claustrophobia and sense of hopelessness. The camera often stays close to the characters' faces, emphasizing fear, guilt, and temptation.

The film is a kind of remake of the erotic thriller "„Death Game“" (1977), but with a modern vision and more aggressive social criticism. The director relies on slow-burning tension that builds through dialogues, psychological games, and a sense of violated personal territory.

„Hammer, hammer“" is an intense, provocative and deeply disturbing thriller that does not seek to please, but to provoke. The film puts the viewer in the uncomfortable position of sympathizing with a character who is both guilty and victim. The combination of exquisite visual minimalism, excellent acting chemistry and a morally challenging script makes the film a memorable part of modern psychological thrillers.
