Jumanji 3 (Jumanji: Open World) is a 2026 American action-adventure fantasy film directed by Jake Kasdan from a screenplay by Jake Kasdan, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg. The film is set to be released in the United States on December 25, 2026.
After the success of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: Next Nothing (2019) the third part (actually the fourth in the franchise) comes with the clear task of closing the story appropriately. Directed by Jake Kasdan, Jumanji 3 promises to be the most expansive and emotional adventure yet—with the return of a beloved cast and a game-changing new concept.
The story picks up directly after the events of the previous film, with the characters once again finding themselves connected to the mysterious world of Jumanji. But this time, something is different. While in the previous installments the characters were „inside“ the game, here there are strong indications that the boundary between the real world and the game is beginning to dissolve. This opens up the possibility of an entirely new type of adventure — one in which the dangers are no longer confined to the digital jungle.
The film retains its signature formula – a group of friends placed in unusual bodies on a mission that requires cooperation, accompanied by a series of increasingly risky trials. But this time the stakes seem higher – not just getting out of the game, but maintaining the balance between two worlds.
Jake Kasdan is back behind the camera and follows the tried and tested formula: a combination of action, comedy and adventure. The film is expected to be more visually ambitious, with a larger scale and a variety of environments. Interestingly, according to early reports, the film will include more scenes in the real world, which allows for new visual and plot contrast.
Dwayne Johnson – as Dr. Smolder Bravestone. Again a charismatic leader who combines action presence with comedic timing.
Kevin Hart – as Franklin "Mouse" Finbarr. The main source of humor, with his characteristic energy and fast-paced dialogue.
Jack Black – as Professor Shelley Oberon. One of the most entertaining elements in the franchise, thanks to the character's transformations and behavior.
Karen Gillan – like Ruby Roundhouse. A balance between action and emotion, with a bigger role in each subsequent part.
Aquafina – like Ming. It adds extra humor and dynamics.
Alex Wolf, Morgan Turner, Madison Eisman, Ser'Darius Blaine – like the „real“ teenagers behind the avatars.
Jumanji 3 has the potential to be the most complete part of the new series — not only as a spectacle, but also as a story. The mixing of the real world with that of the game is a logical evolution of the concept and promises freshness. The film will appeal to fans of the previous parts — dynamic, funny and with a clear emotional thread. If it fulfills its promises, this could be a worthy finale to the modern Jumanji saga.
