Deathstalker (2025)

Deathstalker is a 2025 Canadian-American action-adventure fantasy film directed by Stephen Kostansky from a screenplay by Stephen Kostansky. The film is set to be released in the United States on October 10, 2025.

The film is a new version (remake) of the cult "sword and sorcery" classic "Deathstalker" from 1983.

The action takes place in the fantasy kingdom of Abraksion, which is under attack by the sinister force of the Dredites, servants of a long-dead wizard named Necromemon. The main character, Deathstalker, finds a cursed amulet in a field of corpses. He is then marked by dark magic and pursued by assassins and monsters as he fights to break the curse and prevent the resurgence of evil.

„"„Deathstalker“" approaches the genre with respect for its roots — dark sets, practical effects, monsters, battles, and magic that bring an old-fashioned sci-fi feel, but with more modern cinematography and a slightly more production-heavy treatment.

The acting is aimed at stylization more than realism — Daniel Bernhard as Deathstalker is the typical character who looks like a swordsman with old wounds, without worrying about dramatic weight, and Patton Oswalt as the voice of the magician Doodad brings contrast with humor and mysticism.

The film takes the pleasure of genre tropes—cursed objects, sorcery, monsters, tests of strength and character—and uses them with a slightly self-deprecating tone that lightens the dark moments.

„"„Deathstalker“" is a solid attempt to revive a classic fantasy series with respect for the original elements, but also with modern tools and visual processing. If you're looking for a film that will take you back to swords, amulets, curses and monsters - this is a good one. It's not a masterpiece of the genre, but it's an enjoyable fantasy adventure that's worth it for fans.
