Caught Stealing is a 2025 American crime comedy thriller film directed by Darren Aronofsky from a screenplay by Charlie Huston. The film is set to be released in the United States on August 29, 2025.
The main character is a former high school football player, Hank Thompson – now a bartender in adventurous 1990s New York. One day, his neighbor Russ leaves him a cat, which seems harmless to him. But his life is turned upside down when it turns out that the cat holds the key to a dangerous world of the Russian mafia, corrupt cops, the street and leather-clad psychopaths, all looking for the same object – and Hank is not even sure why. The film achieves tension through the chaotic energy of the East Village – a punk atmosphere, a noisy city and strange characters – events and characters that impress with absurd realism.
Aronofsky blends his signature visual expressiveness and psychological intensity with dark humor.
