Batman: Fall of the Knight – Part 1 is an American animated action-adventure film set in 2026, directed by Jeff Womester from a screenplay by Jeremy Adams. It was released digitally in the United States on August 25, 2026.
Arkham is destroyed and the criminals imprisoned in the asylum are once again on the loose. Batman must capture some of his most dangerous adversaries as Gotham descends into chaos, and the constant clashes exhaust his physical and mental strength. Behind it all is Bane - an adversary who does not rely solely on physical superiority, but also studies Bruce Wayne's weaknesses and turns his exhaustion into part of his plan. Meanwhile, Batman continues to struggle with the loss of Jason Todd and has a hard time allowing the new Robin, Tim Drake, to help him.
Jeff Womester sets the story within one of the most famous storylines in Batman comics – Knightfall, published in 1993–1994. Rather than retelling the entire saga at once, the production is the first part of a planned trilogy that also encompasses the subsequent stories. Knightquest and KnightsEnd. The visual style pays homage to 1990s comics, and the action gradually builds to the feeling that even the most prepared hero can be pushed to his limits. Jeremy Adams' script doesn't rely solely on a series of fights, but also places emphasis on Bruce's inability to accept his own limitations.
Anson Mount voices Batman and presents Bruce Wayne as a hero whose determination gradually begins to work against him. Michael Mando gives Bane an intelligence and coolness that make him more than just a physically formidable opponent. Pablo Schreiber is the voice of Jean-Paul Vallée, known as Azrael, a character whose inner conflicts add another layer to the story of identity and control. Other cast members include Jeff Bennett, Bruce Boxleitner, Jessica Camacho, David Dastmalchian and Jason Fleming, who voice well-known characters from the world of Gotham.
Batman: Fall of the Knight – Part 1 is notable for portraying the superhero not as an invincible figure, but as someone whose trauma and habit of doing everything alone can become his greatest weakness. Bane is particularly dangerous precisely because he understands that defeating Batman requires not just a stronger blow, but careful planning and gradually undermining his resilience. As the first part of a trilogy, the film sets the stage for the larger consequences of this clash and leaves the story open for a sequel.
For fans of DC's animated adaptations, the production offers a serious look at one of the key stories in the Dark Knight's mythology. It's especially interesting for viewers familiar with the comics, but it could also be fascinating for those who want to see why Bane remains one of Batman's most significant adversaries. Batman: Fall of the Knight – Part 1 sets the stage for a story about defeat, recovery, and the difficult choice of whether a hero can move forward without learning to rely on others.
