Murder Mystery 4 (2007)

Saw IV

Killer Puzzle 4 Saw IV is a 2007 American horror thriller film directed by Darren Lynn Bousman from a screenplay by Patrick Melton, Marcus Dunston, and Thomas Fenton. The film was released in the United States on October 26, 2007.

Killer Puzzle 4 released in 2007 and is a transitional but extremely important film for the series. After the heavy and final tone of Killer Puzzle 3, this part has the task of not just continuing the story, but of rearranging the chronology, filling in missing pieces, and showing that the mythology of "„Killer puzzle“" may exist beyond the physical presence of the Puzzle. The director is once again Darren Lynn Bousman, who closes his trilogy with the most structurally complex film to date.

The film begins immediately after the events of Killer Puzzle 3, but it quickly becomes clear that much of the action is taking place in parallel with it. The main storyline follows Detective Rigg, who is put through a series of trials aimed not at physical pain, but at his obsession with saving everyone at all costs.

At the same time, the police deepen their investigation into the legacy of the Puzzle, bringing to the fore the idea of continuity — who can continue his philosophy and what price is paid for it. The film constantly plays with time, information, and the viewer's expectations, building a sense of manipulation not only of the characters, but also of the narrative itself.

Darren Lynn Bousman approaches Killer Puzzle 4 with more structural ambition than sheer shock. The direction is cool, methodical, and purposeful—the traps are less emotional but more conceptual, and the editing often misleads the viewer as to the sequence of events. Visually, the film stays true to the series' aesthetic—dark spaces, industrial locations, and a sense of constant claustrophobia—but here the emphasis is on control and inevitability rather than chaos.

Tobin Bell like John Kramer (Jigsaw) — although his presence is different from previous installments, the character remains a central figure through flashbacks and philosophical dialogues.
Lyric Bent as Detective Rigg — convincingly portrays the inner struggle of a man who doesn't know when to stop and when helping turns into selfishness.
Costas Mandylor as Detective Mark Hoffman — gradually becomes a key element for the future of the franchise, with a cool and restrained performance.
Betsy Russell as Jill Tuck — adds emotional weight and a new perspective to Puzzle's past.
Scott Patterson and Athena Karkanis complement the police line with tension and moral ambiguity.

Killer Puzzle 4 is a film that shifts the focus of the series from individual pain to the system behind the games. This is the part where "„Killer puzzle“" definitively declares that it is not just a series of traps, but a branching story about control, time and legacy. While it is not the most emotional or shocking film, Killer Puzzle 4 is fundamental to understanding the entire subsequent mythology of the franchise.
