Casino Royale (Casino Royale) is a 2006 British-American-Czech-German spy adventure action thriller film directed by Martin Campbell from a screenplay by Neil Purvis, Robert Wade, Paul Haggis and Ian Fleming (author of the novel). The film was released in the United Kingdom on 16 November 2006.
After "„Don't die today.“" (2002), the James Bond franchise seemed exhausted — too reliant on CGI and clichés. EON Productions decided to reboot everything with "„Casino Royale“" — Ian Fleming's first novel (1953), which has not been officially adapted by them until now.
The goal: to return to harsh realism, to show the young Bond in his first missions and to break the cliché of the "invincible agent".
After receiving his license to kill, James Bond (Daniel Craig) takes on his first major mission. He must stop Le Chiffre's terrorist network (Mads Mikkelsen) — a ruthless banker to criminals who organizes a high-stakes poker tournament at the Casino Royale in Montenegro.
Bond receives help from Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) — an agent of the British Treasury. A complex relationship develops between them, in which mutual distrust and passion intertwine. By the time Bond realizes that Vesper is hiding a secret, it is too late — his emotional armor has been pierced, and the beginning of Bond's mythology as a cold and inaccessible agent is laid.
Daniel Craig's appearance as James Bond was controversial - many thought he was "too rough" for the role. But the result is phenomenal. Craig has created the most human Bond, vulnerable, physically and emotionally raw. He is not just a spy - he is a man who is just becoming a legend.
Martin Campbell's direction is balanced between realism and style. The opening black-and-white scene (Bond's first two kills) is a masterpiece of minimalism. David Arnold composes a dark, modern soundtrack, and the theme "“You Know My Name” (Chris Cornell) is an anthem for the new Bond generation.
Rated as the best Bond film since Sean Connery's time and grossing over £14.616 million, it is the most successful film in the series to date. It was named "the best reboot in modern cinema" by Empire and Total Film.
„"„Casino Royale“" is not just another Bond film — it's a rebirth. A blend of drama, realism, and classic espionage that elevated the genre and ushered in a new era for the franchise.
