Hero of our dreams (Dream Scenario) is a 2023 American drama comedy fantasy horror film directed by Christopher Borgley from a screenplay by Christopher Borgley. The film is set to be released in the United States on November 22, 2023.
„"„Hero of our dreams“" is one of the most original and unpredictable films of 2023 — a strange, funny, disturbing and surprisingly insightful satire that simultaneously takes aim at the culture of fame, the obsessions of social media, the subtle insecurities of human relationships and the longing to be noticed.
The film is in the typical spirit of A24 studio — at once bold, absurd and deeply human. At its center is Nicolas Cage in one of the most unconventional and strongest roles of his late career.
Paul Matthews, a middle-aged, socially invisible biology professor, suddenly begins to appear in the dreams of millions of people around the world. At first, his image is neutral: he simply stands in a corner somewhere, watching.
But as his popularity explodes, the strange collective dream begins to change—and Paul is no longer a harmless figure. The mass unconscious begins to pervert, turning him into the monster he never was. The world turns against him, and Paul—a man who always wanted to be noticed—finds himself erased by the very attention he craves.
Nicolas Cage gives one of his strongest performances—vulnerable, pathetic, funny, strangely sympathetic, deeply human. He plays Paul as someone who both craves attention and fears it—and it creates some of his best dramatic scenes in years.
Michael Cera – with a goofy, slightly superficial corporate smile — perfect as a PR guru who sees the global hysteria as an opportunity for profit.
Julian Nicholson in the role of the wife — a quiet, realistic and painfully true presence that adds human weight to the strangeness surrounding Paul.
„"„Hero of our dreams“" is simultaneously funny, painful, absurd, and intelligent — one of those rare stories that manages to be both satirical and deeply human.
This is one of Nicolas Cage's most memorable films in recent years and one of A24's most original titles. If you like cinema that makes you laugh, think, and slightly worry, "„Hero of our dreams“" is exactly that type of story.
