Teleport (Jumper) is a 2008 science fiction action thriller film directed by Doug Lyman according to the scenario of David S. Goyer, Jim Wools и Simon Kinberg. The film is inspired by the novel of the same name by Stephen Gould and combines an adventure plot with an unusual supernatural ability. The world premiere is on February 14, 2008, and the running time is approximately 88 minutes.
As a teenager David Rice discovers that he can instantly teleport from one place to another. After leaving his difficult family life, he begins to use his ability to travel the world and make money by breaking into bank vaults. Years later, David enjoys his freedom, but he realizes that he is not the only person with such abilities. He finds himself being hunted by a secret organization called the Paladins, who consider teleporters a threat and are determined to destroy them.
Doug Lyman builds a dynamic adventure that uses teleportation as an opportunity for spectacular chases and quick changes in the places of action. Traveling between major cities and famous landmarks gives the story an international scale, and the fantastic idea allows the director to break the usual rules of space. At the same time, the conflict between the teleporters and their pursuers introduces elements of a conspiracy thriller. The film relies more on the pace and visual effects than on a thorough explanation of all the rules in the fictional world.
Hayden Christensen plays the role of David Rice, a young man who gradually understands the value of his extraordinary gift. Jamie Bell plays Griffin, another teleporter who has his own experience fighting the Paladins. Rachel Bilson is Millie Harris, David's childhood friend, and Samuel L. Jackson is transformed into the ruthless pursuer Roland. The cast also includes Diane Lane, Michael Rooker, AnaSophia Robb и Max Theriot, which complement the story with characters related to the protagonist's past and family.
Teleport is a good choice for viewers who like fast-paced science fiction films with unusual abilities and international adventures. The idea of a man capable of appearing anywhere in the world in an instant offers an interesting basis for a spectacular story, although some plot lines remain underdeveloped. The production's strengths are the visual variety and the constant clash between the freedom of the protagonist and the danger that pursues him. The film remains an interesting genre proposal for fans of fantasy action films from the beginning of the 21st century.
