Berlin syndrome (Berlin Syndrome) is a 2017 Australian psychological thriller film directed by Cate Shortland from a screenplay by Sean Grant. The film was released in Australia on 20 April 2017.
During a trip to Berlin, Australian journalist Claire (Teresa Palmer) meets Andy (Max Riemelt), a charismatic local man. There is an immediate attraction between the two. A night full of passion awaits.
What at first seems like the beginning of a romance suddenly takes an unexpected turn when Claire wakes up the next morning to find that Andy has gone to work and locked her in his apartment. Probably a mistake, of course, but except that Andy has no intention of letting her out. Ever.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by Melanie Josten.
