Tim Travers and the Time Traveler's Paradox (2024)

Rights holder / Distributor: An Immortal / North by Northwest Productions / Disrupt Entertainment

Tim Travers and the Time Traveler's Paradox is an American science fiction comedy film with fantasy elements from 2024, directed by Stimson Snead, who also wrote the film. The world premiere is on March 8, 2024, as part of the Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival in the United States, and its limited distribution in American theaters begins on May 30, 2025.

Tim Travers is a brilliant but self-absorbed scientist who creates a time travel machine. Determined to test what happens if a person kills his younger self, he embarks on a dangerous experiment that quickly spirals out of control. Instead of finding a simple answer to a scientific paradox, Tim finds himself surrounded by multiple versions of himself. Meanwhile, his actions draw him into conflict with a criminal organization, a clash with a conspiratorial radio host, and unpredictable personal relationships.

Stimson Snead uses the familiar idea of a time paradox as a starting point for an absurd comedy that combines science fiction ideas with dark humor and philosophical questions about human nature. Tim's repeated encounters with himself create the opportunity for a series of increasingly unexpected situations. The low-budget approach does not prevent the film from experimenting with visual effects and narrative structure. However, at times, the many twists and long comedic scenes can make the experience chaotic.

Samuel Dunning bears the brunt of the story, building the different versions of Tim and having to preserve their individuality within the same image. Danny Trejo brings a menacing presence to the role of Royce, and Joel McHale adds extra energy to the conflict with radio host James Bunratty. Keith David stands out for its unusual character, known as the Simulator, while Felicia Day adds to the story with the role of Delilah. Dunning's acting is particularly important to the plot's credibility, as much of the comedy comes from the character's interactions with his own copies.

Tim Travers and the Time Traveler's Paradox is an unconventional offering for fans of independent science fiction films who prefer bold ideas to traditional storytelling. The story turns the logical problem of time travel into a series of ridiculous, dangerous and sometimes surprisingly personal situations. Not every joke or plot twist is equally successful, but the original approach distinguishes the production from more conventional time paradox films. It is best suited for viewers with a taste for black humor, the absurd and science fiction that is not afraid to break the established rules.
