Rights holder / Distributor: Lionsgate
Day Drinker is a 2027 American action thriller film directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Zach Dean. It is scheduled for release in the United States on March 26, 2027.
Plot
Day Drinker tells the story of a bartender on a private yacht who meets a mysterious day-drinking passenger. The encounter between the two draws them into a dangerous criminal situation involving a criminal figure. The characters also develop unexpected connections that gradually change the direction of the story.
The main roles are entrusted to Madeleine Klein, Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz. Klein plays the bartender, Depp is the mysterious guest on the yacht, and Cruz plays the criminal figure around whom the story becomes entangled. This is the basis of the plot, revealed by the production so far, without going into details about the development of the conflict.
Directing
Director of Day Drinker е Mark Webb, known with (500) Days of Summer, as well as with the movies The Amazing Spider-Man и The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The script was written by Zach Dean, who is also among the producers of the production. The film is produced by a team that includes Basil Ivanic and Erica Lee, also known for their work on the series John Wick.
A significant portion of the story takes place on a private yacht, giving the director a limited and confined space to build tension. The first teaser focuses on the mysterious meeting and the characters' subsequent involvement in the criminal world. At the moment, there is not enough information published to draw more specific conclusions about the overall directorial approach.
Acting
At the center of the cast are Johnny Depp, Madeline Klein и Penelope Cruz. Depp returns to a major English-language Hollywood production as the mysterious guest, while Klein plays the bartender. Cruz is working with Depp again after their roles together in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides и Murder on the Orient Express.
Other confirmed participants include: Manu Rios, Aaron Piper, Juan Diego Botto, Annika Boyle, Jean-Marc Barr, Javier Botet, Robert Maaser, Brahim Chab и Fernando Valdivielso. There is still not enough detailed official information about some of their characters. Therefore, it is difficult to assess their real contribution to the story before the premiere.
Conclusion
Day Drinker brings together a crime thriller, a mysterious encounter and an unusual setting, with the basis of the story being clear enough without revealing too much of the development. The film also attracts attention with the repeated on-screen partnership between Johnny Depp и Penelope Cruz, which already has a history in several famous productions. At the same time Madeline Klein occupies a central place in the story as the character through whom the unusual series of events begins.
There is still plenty of time left until the premiere, and the production has not yet revealed its full story. Therefore, the final assessment will depend mainly on whether Day Drinker will manage to turn the intriguing opening situation into a full-blown thriller, rather than just a series of mysterious encounters. For fans of such films, the combination of a yacht, a criminal world, and three leading actors certainly sets an intriguing foundation.
