The Exorcist: Martyrs is a 2027 American supernatural horror film directed and written by Mike Flanagan based on characters created by William Peter Blatty. It is scheduled for release in the United States on March 12, 2027.

Julie Miller is a New York detective whose life has been marked by the investigation of a satanic serial killer. Thirteen years after the case was closed, new violent crimes force her to return to a past she wanted to leave behind. With the help of a former prison chaplain and her young colleague, Julie begins to search for a connection between the murders. Soon, the investigation questions the line between human evil and forces that cannot be rationally explained.

Mike Flanagan, known for Doctor Sleep, Haunted place and Midnight Mass, combines a criminal investigation with religious horror and psychological suspense. Rather than directly repeating the story of the classic film The Exorcist, he builds a standalone story within the same cinematic universe. The director emphasizes fear, guilt, and doubt, using the crimes as a jumping-off point for a larger supernatural mystery. This approach promises a darker, crime-oriented horror that diverges from traditional possession stories.

Scarlett Johansson stars Julie Miller and portrays a detective forced to confront her own fears as she tries to uncover the truth. Chuyetel Ejiofor plays Father William, who has important information about the killer's past, and Sasha Kale is the young detective Gina Restrepo. John Leguizamo takes on the role of Father Sunday, and Diane Lane plays Mary Miller, the mother of the main character. The cast also includes Laurence Fishburne, Jacoby Jupp, Carla Gugino, Hamish Linklater, Rahul Kohli and Kate Siegel.

The Exorcist: Martyrs combines crime thriller and supernatural horror, focusing on the clash between rational thinking and the unexplained. The participation of Mike Flanagan and a strong cast make it one of the most anticipated titles among horror films of 2027. Instead of relying solely on the familiar theme of demonic possession, the production seeks tension in both the investigation and the psychological consequences for the characters. The film is aimed at viewers who prefer dark stories with a criminal mystery and religious motifs.
