The film follows Djokovic from his childhood in war-torn Serbia to his rise to become one of the most successful tennis players in history. But rather than simply listing his records, the documentary explores the psychology behind his extraordinary competitiveness. At its heart lies his stubbornness and constant need to prove that he can overcome every obstacle. It is this inner motivation that is presented as one of the main reasons he continues to compete, despite having already achieved almost everything possible in professional tennis.

Particular attention is paid to the man behind the athlete. Djokovic speaks frankly about his family, his relationship with his wife Jelena Djokovic, fatherhood and the way his personal life gradually changed his vision of the future. The film also examines the more controversial moments of his career, including his stance on the COVID-19 vaccination and his deportation from Australia in 2022. Thus, his image is presented not as a flawless sporting hero, but as a complex and sometimes polarizing personality.

Among the interviewees are people close to Djokovic's life, his family and famous figures from the world of tennis, including Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Boris Becker, Jim Currier и Rafael Nadal. Their perspectives help build a more complete portrait of the champion, but the main focus remains on Djokovic himself and his attitude towards victory, defeat and the legacy he will leave behind after his career ends.

The direction of Jason Hayhir is one of the strongest qualities of the production. After the success of "„The Last Dance“" he again chooses not to turn the sports documentary into a simple collection of archive footage and great moments. Instead, he uses the present as a starting point and asks the more interesting question: what happens to an athlete when he has already reached the peak, but is not yet ready to stop? The title "„The wolf in winter“" becomes a metaphor for this stage of life - a period in which experience and character must compensate for inevitable physical limitations.

„Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter“" received positive reactions from its premiere, with the candid approach to Djokovic's personality being particularly highly appreciated. The film neither tries to idealize him nor present him as a villain, but seeks the reasons for his behavior and his constant pursuit of the next challenge. It is this multi-layeredness that sets it apart from traditional sports biographies.

„Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter“" is a powerful documentary portrait of an athlete at one of the most exciting times of his life. Rather than focusing solely on his 24 Grand Slam titles and historic records, the film attempts to understand what drives a man who has already achieved everything to keep searching for the next victory. The result is both a sporting story and a human tale of ambition, family, doubt and the difficulty of knowing when it's time to stop.
