„The Simpsons“ (The Simpsons) is an American animated comedy series created by Matt Groening and developed for television by James L. Brooks and Sam Simon. It premiered on December 17, 1989. on Fox, after the characters initially appeared as short animated segments in "„The Tracey Ullman Show“". Over the decades, the series has become one of the most recognizable television productions in the world, and in 2026 it continues to be broadcast with new episodes.

The story takes place in the fictional American town of Springfield and follows the daily lives of the Simpson family - father Homer, his wife Marge and their children Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Although at first glance they are an ordinary middle-class family, their lives constantly turn into a series of absurd situations. The characters get into various adventures that allow the writers to ridicule politics, society, the media, business, culture and everyday habits of Americans.

At the heart of the series is the magnificent voice cast. Dan Castellaneta voices Homer Simpson, as well as numerous secondary characters, including Grampa Simpson and Krusty the Clown. Julie Kavner is Marge's voice, while Nancy Cartwright voices Bart. Yeardley Smith is Lisa, and Julia Kavner and the rest of the cast make up the vast gallery of memorable Springfield residents. It is this diversity of characters that allows the series to tell a virtually endless number of different stories.

One of the greatest achievements of "„The Simpsons“" is how comedy becomes a tool for social satire. The series often uses ordinary family situations as a starting point to comment on larger societal issues. From Bart and Lisa's school to Homer's job at the nuclear power plant, almost every part of everyday life is an occasion for humor and criticism. The writers create jokes on different levels, allowing the series to be both accessible and intelligent.

Over the years, Springfield has become a self-contained universe with dozens of regular characters – from Mr. Burns and Smithers to Ned Flanders, Milhouse, Moe and Chief Wiggum. It is these characters that allow the production to change its genre from episode to episode – from family comedy to parody, crime story, science fiction or even horror. The special episodes „Treehouse of Horror“" further demonstrate the freedom with which the series experiments.

„The Simpsons“" gradually became not just a successful television series, but a huge cultural phenomenon. It won numerous awards, influenced other animated productions and turned its yellow characters into a globally recognizable symbol. The series also proved that animation could be intended not only for children, but also offer complex humor and social commentary to adult audiences.

„The Simpsons“" is one of the most influential works in the history of television animation. Despite its enormous length, the series continues to rely on the same basic formula - a family that constantly gets into trouble, and a society that provides endless opportunities for satire. Its legacy is difficult to measure, and its presence on television for more than three decades proves how universal its characters and humor are.
