The Chosen (2017 – )

The Chosen (literal translation: The Chosen One) is a 2017 American historical drama television series created by Dallas Jenkins. The film premiered on Amazon Prime Video on April 21, 2019.

The Chosen is an exceptional historical drama about the life of Yeshua (Jesus Christ) of Nazareth, told through the eyes of the people who meet him. Created by Dallas Jenkins, the series began as a fully-funded grant project in 2017 and has grown exponentially—by 2025, it will have four seasons, with a fifth in production. The show combines deep humanity, rich biblical mythology, and quality production that improves with each new season.

The series begins with the apostle Simon Peter—a poor fisherman who loses hope—and gradually develops, including stories such as the visit to Nicodemus, the casting out of demons by Mary Magdalene, and the first miracles and teachings of Yeshua. Each season focuses on key scenes—the Holy Cross, the Transfiguration, and Christ’s resurrection, while season 4 and the upcoming season 5 find a bridge between historical drama and intimate drama.

The Chosen is a unique phenomenon – a religious drama with a human soul and a modern understanding. It is a series that shows how much depth there is in every biblical name, as it develops through doubts, fears, miracles and trust. With growing popularity, production evolution and faithful staging, The Chosen offers a new look at ancient plots, accessible and impactful for seekers and believers alike.
