Electric Dreams (2017 – 2018)
Electric Dreams is a 2017 British-American fantasy film series based on the stories of Philip K. Dick. The film premieres on movie platforms on September 18, 2017.
Electric Dreams is an anthology science fiction series based on the short stories of legendary author Philip K. Dick, a writer whose vision of the future has inspired generations of directors and screenwriters. Produced in collaboration between Channel 4 and Amazon Prime Video, the series is divided into ten standalone episodes, each with its own world, plot and characters. Although superficially unrelated, the stories share a deep thread – the question of human consciousness, identity, morality and technology in a world that often seems less and less human.
The series is distinguished by its genre flexibility – from cyberpunk atmosphere to retro futurism and dystopian present. Each episode is an adaptation of a different Dick story, reimagined with a modern sensibility and viewer aesthetic.
Sample episodes:
“The Hood Maker” – a world without technology, where telepaths are used by the government while society loses its freedom.
“Real Life” – a game of perception in which the heroine lives in two realities simultaneously, without knowing which one is the real one.
“Autofac” – a post-apocalyptic world in which an automated factory continues to produce goods, regardless of the needs of the already devastated civilization.
These episodes present themes such as artificial intelligence, predestination, state control, rebellion against machines, and the limits of the human psyche.

Each story features new actors, a new directing team, and a new visual style, giving each episode a unique feel and depth. A stellar cast is featured, giving the series a cinematic weight. Some episodes stand out with truly moving performances – for example, Bryan Cranston, who not only stars but also serves as an executive producer.
The direction and cinematography vary, but there is an attention to aesthetics throughout – be it through sterile futuristic landscapes, bleak megacities or surreal visions. The music complements the intensity of the themes, underscoring the emotional and philosophical undertones of each story.

Electric Dreams is a series that is not just watched, but experienced. It is a mosaic of worlds that reflect the fears and hopes of modern society. Although uneven, the series leaves a strong intellectual and emotional impact, especially for those who seek depth beyond the surface of genre television. It is a kind of „Black Mirror“ in the style of Philip K. Dick – less sensational, but more philosophical and literary.
