Butterfly is a 2025 American spy action thriller film series created by Ken Woodruff and Steph Cha. The film premiered on the Amazon Prime Video movie platform on August 13, 2025.
The story in the film focuses on David Jung (Daniel Dae Kim), a former American agent living a secluded life in South Korea after making a fateful decision that changed his life. His past catches up with him when a mysterious organization called Caddis sends young and cold-blooded operative Rebecca (Reyna Hardusty) to eliminate him. Meanwhile, Rebecca discovers that the man he's pursuing may be her father, which undermines all her faith and exposes deep family feelings and secrets.
The series skillfully combines fast-paced action scenes—with close encounters, gunfights, high-speed chases, and explosions—with emotional drama focused on fatherhood, betrayal, and identity. The directors build tension and psycho-emotional intensity through contrasts between the characters’ inner worlds and external espionage threats.
„Butterfly“" offers a spectacular fusion of spy thriller and emotional family storytelling. With an international cast, strong visual atmosphere and unique musical support, the series promises to be a captivating experience. Although detailed critical reviews are lacking at this time, pre-premiere reactions suggest that this six-episode film format could prove to be a fresh and engaging spy story with a human heart.
